The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and Prohibition Productions proudly present the second annual INTREPID: BATTLE OF THE BIG BANDS on the historic aircraft carrier Intrepid! This highly anticipated one-night-only special event is an official part of Fleet Week 2017, celebrating the music, dancing, and style of the Swing Era. It will feature three big bands playing on the Flight Deck of the ship and two more bands on the Hangar Deck. The spectacular lineup has over 90 performers, with live music and dancing all night, plus a 2000-square-foot wood dance floor on the Flight Deck and a 1000-square-foot dance floor on the Hanger Deck. “Follow the Fleet” with Navy-inspired outfits. Vintage attire and dance shoes are encouraged. Last year’s event was completely sold out and voted one of the best events of the year! Live music on the Flight Deck by the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra and Gunhild Carling with the Swingadelic Big Band. Live music on the Hanger Deck by Jason Prover’s Sneak Thievery Orchestra and Dan Levinson and his Swing Wing. Plus: Gimme Four (award-winning barbershop quartet); DJs VaVa Voon and Odysseus Bailer; MC Dandy Wellington; performances by The Bathtub Ginnys; debut dance performances by the Intrepid Swing Dance Brigade (with choreography by Gaby Cook and Paolo Pasta Lanna); 1940s-style pinup and cigarette gals Velvetina Taylor, Dandy Dillinger, Lilin Lace, and Georgie; a best-dressed contest; a Jack & Jill dance contest; a group dance contest (winners perform at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing); free beginner swing dance lessons in the hanger (30 minutes each at 8pm and 10pm); a photo booth with a 1940s-era plane; and guided tours of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum (VIP ticket holders only).
